The essence of van life, the privileges of the dawn

Open an eye. Open the van door. To breathe. To fill your lungs with the fresh air of dawn and to offer your eyes the masterful spectacle of nature waking up. To awaken with her. To remember our senses. Taste small discomforts, appreciate them because they bring us back to ourselves. To remember that the convenience of our modern lives is a recent phenomenon in human history.

Humanity. Seeing it grow in us as we spend more time outside. Seeing the beauty in the landscapes we pass through, seeing the complexity in every blade of grass we walk on and suddenly realising how much of a feat it is to be human. To appreciate the company of those who cross our path as so many miracles. To understand the infinite conditions and circumstances that brought us together last night around the fire. To be the first one awake this morning. 

Enjoy the silence. 

Breathe. 

Soon hear a few muffled voices from two other vans. Those travellers with whom we shared the evening and passionate discussions. Seeing them get out and take deep breaths in turn. Greeting each other with their eyes. Not needing words to share the beauty of this morning. To feel that we are touching something fundamental.

Meeting other humans. Being outside. Travelling differently. Cherish our good fortune. Taking care of the place we occupy. Belonging to a group. Sharing authentic values. Protecting corners of paradise like this from concrete and consumerist tourism. Preserving these spaces.

Bringing humans back into nature and regenerating our human nature.
